The situation in Marikana comprises of 2 problems and a fading away irritation. The FIRST PROBLEM is the greedy mine owners who will rather loose over 27 billion instead of paying their workers decent salaries, which we all know they can afford. Their strategy which visibly failed was to starve those mine workers until they return to work. One is instantly reminded of the following quote by Bill Haywood “The mine owners did not find the gold, they did not mine the gold, they did not mill the gold, but by some weird alchemy all the gold belonged to them!” The SECOND PROBLEM is that guy Joseph Mathunja. Although he is fighting a good course but his strategy leaves a lot to be desired. Im not impressed with the manner in which his handling the evidently volatile and violent situation in that area. His reluctance to adequately condemn the violence on the part of his members and to equally educate them on tolerance of those who are not party to their strike. Anyway Mathunjwa is a wealthy fellow and this is just another business transaction. Lastly the FADING IRRITATION is/was EFF or Julius. What the hek was EFF doing at Marikana coz clearly it was not there to mediate the situation or to offer any practical solution. It was just a clear Hijacking of a labour dispute through rethorics and turning it into a political rally for cheap political points. But anyway JUJU is in Parly he got what he wanted so Im certain as a matter of fact that we will be seeing less of him there.
