The size of a hall greatly influences the reverberation and overall auditory quality of an operatic performance. The great countertenor James Bowman once mentioned during an interview how comparatively smaller spaces (filled with large numbers of people) tend to make large voices sound swelled, spread, and over-projected unless the singer can compensate for the difference. Suzanne Kantorski-Merrill turned Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater into the Met during this performance, controlling and releasing every nuance of her gorgeous crystalline soprano flawlessly to the utter pleasure of the audience and to the empowerment of her fellow cast members. Brava!!!!!!!
