The small schooner Challenge was slowly sinking on this date in 1910, so its captain put it ashore 12 miles south of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. They hoped to return to the ship and pull it off the beach, but a storm battered the ship to pieces. Challenges owner sold what was left to a local farmer for 10 bucks- he used it as firewood. Years later the keel would be discovered.. and is now on display at the state park.
