The so-called “Super Cow” is a striking example of how we exploit animals to embellish our egos. Creating a 1-ton cow is presented by National Geographic as a major scientific achievement, a testament to human intelligence and a symbol of humankind’s mastery over nature and other animals. When we began domesticating animals some 10,000 years ago, we replaced our reverence for nature with a bloodthirsty compulsion to conquer her. We still cling to the same beliefs of our herding ancestors in our age of technological innovation, overconsumption and overpopulation, and, in the process, we’ve perfected the recipe for our own extinction.
