The social media war reached a new zenith with the brother of a person killed in a fake encounter in Gujarat registering a complaint with Madhya Pradesh police cyber cell against “elements close to RSS and BJP”. Rubabuddin, brother of Sohrabuddin Sheikh who was killed in a fake encounter in 2005, has stated in his complaint that he and his family are being abused online by people associated with RSS and BJP for electoral gains. “Considering the crucial elections coming up in the country, my family and I are being targeted and abused online for electoral gains by people associated with RSS and BJP,” he said, adding that he was also being trolled on social media, with vested interests targeting his Facebook and Whatsapp accounts. Rubabuddin’s brother Sohrabuddin was eliminated in an encounter after being dubbed as a terrorist on a mission to kill Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Sohrab’s and his accomplice Tulsi’s fake encounters have now been clubbed as one case. As many as 32 policemen from Gujarat and Rajasthan, including nearly half a dozen senior IPS officers, are in jail for their alleged involvement in the encounter. Gujarat’s former minister of State Amit Shah was also arrested in the case. He is currently out on bail. “Miscreants have been creating trouble for me on social media. This is the handiwork of elements close to RSS and BJP. They have posted derogatory comments against my brothers and me alleging that we have taken Rs 5 crore from the Congress and may even contest polls on a Congress ticket in the upcoming assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh or general election in 2014. Just because I am fighting the BJP in Gujarat and its fake encounter policy, I am being targeted by right wingers,” Rubabuddin told Mirror. In his complaint with Nagda police on Thursday evening, Rubabuddin said, “This is handiwork of people associated with RSS . They are aiming at political gains with such campaigns that polarise the society and alienate us as minorities”. Rubabuddin was recently called as witness in connection with sting conducted by an independent journalist who had alleged that senior BJP leaders wanted to sabotage the investigations in Tulsi encounter case. Naming Amit Shah, Rubabuddin said that following the sting operation there has been a hue and cry over cancellation of Shah’s bail and that was the reason he and his family were being abused by right wing sympathisers. He named Milind Tripathi from Ghaziabad, Abhay Chopda and Bherulal Tank from Nagda, Madhya Pradesh, and Swarup Narayan Chaturdevi from Khachrod, also in MP, as people he suspected of involvement in the social media abuse. This is the first complaint with the cyber cell in the fake encounter case. Rubabuddin has claimed harassment and threat to his life through social media. The cyber crime cell in Bhopal has begun investigation.
