The song we did to close-out the show... There are several reasons I picked this song. We are a musical family; I dont know a time that we didnt get together and play music. My mom has always loved rock music, the blues, and praise and worship tunes. When I listen to Chicago or Stevie Ray Vaughn or Billy Preston, thats my moms influence. My dads musical contribution to my life was acoustic-based music.. He only listened to classic country (I heard, He Stopped Lover Her Today so many times that I new Georges breaths between words) and traditional bluegrass music. We attended many festivals growing up and although I was respectful of the high lonesome sound of Bill Monroe, Dr. Ralph, etc..that wasnt MY music. At 13 I was walking through a bluegrass festival with my family and heard music coming from somewhere. This voice that blew my mind and I thought immediately, THAT is for me! It was New Grass Revival and Im sure many people felt that way the 1st time they heard NGR. Over the years my dad never became an NGR fan but he was thankful that I was more willing to go to festivals (in case NGR happened to be there.) :) I sang this song on Saturday because my dad instilled this love of acoustic music in my heart and he is buried beside my property in KY (at the end of a winding road, by the shade of a lonely tree. The home of his childhood, and sweet memories. In my fathers field. I also sang it because John Cowan cut it on an album and its one of my fave JC songs. No, I cant top John Cowan, but hopefully it is a decent tribute! Hope you enjoy! ~S.
