The sound of my shoes slapping against the pavement, my heart - TopicsExpress

The sound of my shoes slapping against the pavement, my heart racing. Pounding on the inside of my chest. My lungs hurt, I could taste blood. I wanted to stop and rest but the adrenaline kept my legs moving. I heard them close behind, yelling. BANG, my heart skipped a beat. I felt a sharp pain my my right shoulder, it almost made me fall over, stop running. But I knew if I did I would be killed. I rounded the corner into the alley. The brightly lit sign for Mercy Hospital lit up the dark, musty alley. Running as fast, as hard as I could. I came up to some railing leading down 3 flights of stair. I hopped over the railing. I fell to the sidewalk, my feet hurt from the fall but I kept running. Into the street, a taxi on my right slid. I looked right as it hit me, legs, shoulder, winded. I fell onto the sidewalk on the other side of the street. It all hurt so badly but in my head a voice was yelling at me to get up. I opened my eyes and got up, I ran towards the hospital. I heard the others behind me, BANG, BANG. I ducked behind a pillar, for only a second. I saw people running into the hospital, heads ducked. The automatic doors opened, the cold air left my face and that warm hospital air rushed over it. The elevators ahead, it would take too long. The stairs adjacent, I grabbed the handle and turned. I ripped the door open, a woman was on the other side coming down the stairs. I pushed her aside and leaped over the first 5 stairs. My shoes wet I slipped and fell on the floor, all of my pain resonated again. The door was about to shut before it was slammed open, the gangsters jumped over the lady laying on the ground. Bounding for me, I placed both palms on the ground and flipped my legs through them, landing both feet in the center of this mans chest. He fell backwards and into the other 3 behind him. Grabbed the railing and continued up the stairs. I reached the 3rd floor door and raced through it. I felt light headed, my arm was cold and sweatshirt soaked with blood. The nurse behind the desk to my left was staring at me. I ran to the elevator across from the desk and frantically hit the up button. The door opened and several people were exiting, I pushed through them and hit the button for the 14th floor. I heard the stairs door open and yelling, the gangster I kicked ran to the door but slipped in the small pool of blood I had left. He landed on the ground with his pistol pointing at me, he accidentally fired when he fell. The bullet missed me by a foot, a hole in the elevator wall. The door closed before he could get up, the elevator music was slightly calming. The lights at the top of the elevator lighting up one by one, 10...11...12...14, DING. The doors opened. I rushed out, there was a lot of people waiting to get into the elevator. I was struggling to get through them. I bumped one with my shoulder, a shooting pain told me to just stop and lay down. But I couldnt. The second elevator dinged, the door opened, it was them. I dashed to the nurse desk, I pulled a wheelchair behind the desk into the path behind me. A door behind the desk, I frantically grabbed the handle and swung the door open. A small lunch room. I pushed and flung chairs behind me to block their path. I grabbed the door jam and sling-shot myself down the hall, people pushing up against the walls out of fear as to why I was sprinting through the hall. My entire body ached and every physical pain I had was telling me to stop. A right turn ahead, i took it. Another long hall with large windows to my left. I need to make it back down stairs to elude them, but how. Up ahead there was a stairwell sign. Hope. I picked up my speed, my head throbbed, I felt faint. I reached the sign and rounded the corner to the right. I was sent backwards, into the air. BANG, all the air shoved out of my lungs. My chest hurt. One of them was there, waiting for me. The pellets from the shotgun are undoubtedly going to kill me even if I escape somehow. Everything was moving in slow motion. I felt the glass behind me pushing against my back, it shattered. Shards of glass hovered in the air in front of me. I felt gravitys hand grab me. I didnt know what was behind me, at this point it didnt matter. The cold air flowing over my face, it felt so nice. My body was feeling light, numb. It felt like an eternity of falling. The broken window well above me, my shooter looking down at me. The ringing in my ears stopped, the air flowing over me was so loud, louder and louder it got. Thump. Everything was black, the pain faded away. It was like I was dreaming. Screaming, I was falling into a canyon. Adrenaline rushed into my veins, I sat up gasping for air. I looked around, a hospital room? I was naked and in a bed. Where am I? I couldnt have survived that shot, nor the 13 story drop. No wounds, but a slew of scars where I was injured. Where am I.
