The speech i delivered at magulasavi matric dance Matric Farwell speech by Mr Chauke H Venue : Oasis Lodge Date : Saturday, 04-October 2014 The programme Director The School Principal The hounarable president of the LRC Nonhlanhla Ndlovu Members of the school governing body present tonight Our distinguished Learners Esteemed Guests Ladies and Gentlemen Good evening, dumelang, riperile, goeienaand. I wish to thank the Office of LRC president for this opportunity to speak to the learners of Magulasavi the class of 2014 grade 12, on this occasion. Vukona bya mina madyambu lawa ka ndhawu leyi, swi endle kuri ni kota ku vona ku ri ku na vanhu lava loko vani languta va vona xa nwa nchumu ka mina. Tonight we gather to commemorate the journey we have travelled together as Educators, Learners and the community since the beginning of the year. The day marks a significant milestone on the calendar of Magulasavi High School as teachers look back with pride on the job they have done to prepare this lot for their final hurdle. However let us remember that a milestone does not mean the end of the road, but rather it signifies the end one stretch and the beginning of another. And this holds true for our matric learners tonight. As you graduate from this noble institution, many will be confronted with profound choices that will determine your future role in the society and most importantly your contribution to the development of Makhuva Location,, its people and its economy and South Africa as a whole. Few years ago I too walked through the corridors of this same noble institution and like all of you tonight. I was forced to grow overnight and make decision that have since lived with me. Looking around, then I realised the lack of information on career path in our community and the society at large Then I decided to be a Librarian of a different kind. Where ever I spend few minutes with young people I motivate them to make correct decision when choosing careers. Career is not about the fat cheque but it’s all about the passion which you have for that particular career. You are at a critical stage of your career. Matric is the beginning of your academic and professional career. Now, you cannot afford to be influenced by negative talk that there are no jobs in the country. I want to encourage you that do not let other people define your world for you because they will define it small for you. The fact that you are in Matric is proof that you have potential to define your destiny. This would mean making serious and sometimes difficult choices. These choices would be studying when you should be chilling or hanging around with friends. You have a choice to pass Matric or fail it. We do not fail because we want to fail. Everything that we do is dependent on making right choices. We have to have a good company of friends to help us reach our goals. Matric is a groundbreaking period of your life. The choices you make today will determine where you will be tomorrow. Doing Matric and writing your exams is a key to the world of immense opportunities. It does not mean that you will not face failure and disappointments. Failure is not fatal. Failure is not permanent. Failure is not eternal. Remember that when you fail, you can get up and move on and learn from it. You are a class of Matric 2014.If you look around yourself there is a lot that can inspire you. Remember this,, Education is a ladder out of poverty for millions of South Africans. I quote from Dr Nelson Mandela speech. “Education is the great engine of a personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of a mine, that a child of farm worker can become a president of a great nation.” Hikuva dyondzo ixi thlangu hi yona mhaka na mina niri bizi no yisa tidyondzo ta mina mahlweini na Yunivhesithi ya Free State la ni nga ka lembe ra mina ro hetelela ku endla Bachelor of Education. South Africa is a growing economy competing with other markets in the world. Our products need people like you to market them internationally. You are now going to enter a world of ideas. Anything that is successful starts with an idea. It is important that you do not hide your ideas. Share them with people that can help you live your dreams. Who knows? Perhaps your idea can solve peoples problems. You can create solutions to many challenges in life. Truly that is how you can get into business. When you sit for your final-year exams - do not panic or be afraid. I want to assume that if you have prepared yourselves thoroughly then there is no need to panic. At Magulasavi High, we expect you to pass your exams with flying colours. I also expect your school to have a 100% pass rate. Do not let fear paralyse you. Be confident in what you do and write. When you leave this place next year remember that the world is your oyster. The world is ready for you. Go out there and shine and make your contribution. Stand up and be counted as a leader, community builder or nation builder and a shinning star. Your parents are a source of inspiration to you. Let their sacrifices inspire you. Parents should provide you with support during your final exams. And all the best for your year-end exams. God Bless Magulasavi. I thank you.
