The squad flies to Lisbon today. Here are five of our favourite Portuguese!! *Deco 2008-10: 58 appearances, six goals Although born in Brazil, Deco represented Portugal and he arrived at Chelsea soon after his former boss at international level, Luiz Felipe Scolari, made the same move. While he didnt live up to the early promise, which included the pictured acrobatic effort against Bolton, Deco was quietly influential as we won the Double in 2009/10, including an excellent display late in the campaign against Manchester United which proved to be pivotal in the title race. *Tiago 2004-05: 52 appearances, four goals Blues fans wasted little time putting together a song for the former Benfica man, who marked his full debut for the club with a stunner against Crystal Palace and was soon greeted with his own chant by Blues fans. Otherwise an unsung hero in our 2004/05 title success, Tiago is also notable for scoring an absolute howitzer at Old Trafford after we had clinched a first championship in 50 years. He is now at Atletico Madrid, and is a former team-mate of Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Thibaut Courtois. *Jose Bosingwa 2008-12: 126 appearances, three goals Bosingwa may have been more like an auxiliary winger from his position at right-back, but the ex- Porto man delivered the performance of his life as a makeshift centre-back as the Blues reached the Champions League final with a defiant display against Barcelona at Camp Nou in 2012. He followed it up with another top- class performance, this time at right-back, in the final as we defeated Bayern Munich. How much did it mean to him? Just look at his face! *Paulo Ferreira 2004-13: 2178 appearances, two goals Paulo established himself as a fans favourite during nine years at the Bridge thanks to his dedicated approach to the game and unswerving loyalty to the Blues. He was a regular member of the defence in 2004/05 which set a new Premier League record of conceding just 15 goals, and departed Chelsea having won three championships and just about every other major club honour going. *Alberto_Ricardo_Carvalho 2004-10: 210 appearances, 11 goals Like his old Porto team-mate and good friend Paulo Ferreria, Riccy was an integral member of our record-breaking back four. He played a full part in one of the clubs most successful periods, forming one of the Premier Leagues best-ever centre-back pairings with John Terry and winning the 2007/08 Players Player of the Year award. He was often on hand to pop up with a goal, too – none more memorable than the final effort in a 3-0 win over Manchester United which clinched the 2005/06 Premier League title.
