The state forecast from BOM. Weather Situation A weak high pressure system [1019 hPa] over eastern Australia extends a dry airmass through the state. The high will shift east into the southern Coral Sea during today, with a more moist easterly wind flow extending towards the east tropical coast. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Early morning fog patches about eastern districts and near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Early morning light frost patches over the Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Cloudy periods near the northeast tropical coast with possible isolated light showers developing. A warm day over western and southern districts with moderate northwest to northeasterly winds, fresh at times over the interior. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere, fresh at times near the Peninsula coast. Forecast for Monday A vigorous trough will enter the southwest of the state Monday morning and move rapidly east over the interior, reaching the western Darling Downs in the evening. Dry, warm and gusty west to northwest winds will occur ahead of the trough, resulting in enhanced fire dangers through southern districts, particularly through areas southwest of about Bedourie to Goondiwindi. A cooler, fresh and gusty southerly wind change will then extend east in the wake of the trough. The high pressure system over the southern Coral Sea will extend a relatively moist southeast to northeast wind flow onto the east tropical and central coasts with isolated light showers expected. These showers should clear late in the day as the high shifts further southeast and the onshore wind flow weakens. Daytime temperatures will rise to be well above the August average over the west and south of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The trough will most likely contract off the southern Queensland coast early Tuesday morning, with a cooler southwest to southeasterly wind change extending through areas southwest of about Mount Isa to the Sunshine Coast. Daytime temperatures will remain well above the August average over remaining parts of the state away from the tropics. The high pressure system over the southern Coral Sea will weaken while a new high over South Australia will move east into New South Wales. A dry airmass will extend through much of the state with only isolated light showers expected near the northeastern Peninsula coast. Fire Dangers will most likely remain at least High over southeastern districts and the central interior due to a dry and gusty south to southwesterly wind flow in the wake of the trough. Forecast for Wednesday The trough will move north into Capricornia waters and should generate isolated showers through the Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett districts before weakening late in the day. Mostly fine conditions are expected in the far southeast with just the chance of isolated light afternoon showers. The new high pressure system will move east off the New South Wales coast into the northern Tasman Sea, extending a ridge and onshore wind flow onto the northeast Queensland coast with isolated light showers expected. Early morning frost patches are possible about the Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts under clear skies and light winds. A new trough will enter southwestern Queensland during the day, with the northerly wind flow ahead of the trough resulting in daytime temperatures well above the August average once again through western, central and southern districts. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The new trough will most likely contract off the southern coast during Thursday. A new high pressure system will then develop over southeastern Australia, extending a cooler, dry southerly wind flow into western and southern Queensland in the wake of the trough. This high is then expected to move slowly east over New South Wales into the Tasman Sea during the remainder of the outlook period, extending a ridge and onshore wind flow onto the east Queensland coast with isolated showers expected. A new trough will most likely approach and move over the far southwest of the state late Saturday, with increasing cloud across the south of the state. Increasing northerly winds ahead of the trough is expected to again result in daytime temperatures well above the August average through western, southern and central Queensland. Early morning frosts are likely through the southeastern interior on Friday morning ahead of the warmer northerly wind flow. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
