The statistics on Academy conversions shows that most Primary schools have remained as Community Comprehensive schools, as have just under half of all secondary schools. Moreover the rate of conversion has slowed down quite dramatically, perhaps influenced by the research that showed that academy conversion does not raise results. The DfE has also undergone a change in attitude to conversions. It recently turned down two schools planning to convert as autonomous stand alone Academies unless they accepted becoming part of an Academy chain. That sounds like a step towards schools run for profit.
