The storm hit about 1am Thursday morning. By noon Thursday it should have been readily apparent that this was a disaster to those on the ground surveying the damage, by those at GVEA fielding the outage issues, etc. I get not being prepared. Hell, the most I was expecting were road issues for a day or two, maybe a few hours without power, snow - you know, normal shit we deal with here in Alaska. I didnt ever anticipate 70ft. spruce trees being twisted apart like string cheese by the wind. And granted, it hit in the middle of the night, not Wednesday afternoon like it was supposed to, so yeah, we were all lulled into a false sense of security. But to anyone in any position to see the wider scale of damage on Thursday, it should have been obvious that this was severe - more severe than anything I can ever remember, or even recall being told of in this area. That said, bring me a climate change denier. Just give me one to make into my own little personal voodoo puppet for an hour or so. Or if you really, really love me, youll get me one of the Drill, Baby drill! idiots for Christmas so I can coat them in tar sands, and feathers, then roast them over flaming water resulting from fracking. Seriously, Ive been good all year!!
