The storm is in full swing. It came in fast and hard. We lost our hay shelter by 3:15AM. All the animals seem to be doing well. PLEASE during storms like this make sure your animals are secure. They may seem to enjoy the snow but they dont always know better. Icelandic sheep as well as some other types of animals may be known for their extreme condition survival skills but that doesnt mean a storm cant harm them. The animals get snow on them, their body heat melts it the cold and the wind can then make their body temp drop to the point of hypothermia. Last year my 1/2 Icelandic ran out on me while it was freezing rain. She came back it but had gotten wet. Normally it wouldnt have been a problem but the temp. plummeted and she became hypothermic. Luckily, I noticed and was able to save her. Please secure your animals in preparation for storms even if they seem to like being out in the storm. Chances are they are not thinking of the consequences!!
