The story behind the picture of John Seigenthaler and I that I - TopicsExpress

The story behind the picture of John Seigenthaler and I that I posted yesterday is as following: We had just finished a photo shoot for The Tennessean to promote the Southern Festival of Books and John said he wanted to get me aside and tell me something. John said he had something important to tell me and that I was going to be very pleased when I heard it. So as we began to walk away to go talk, a friend of mine, Russell W. Hooper III (without a doubt the leading scholar in the world on Matthew Fontaine Maury, but I digress), started taking pictures of John and me. Just then, another author, filled as always with her sense of self-importance, ran up and began to rattle on about something about herself, cutting me completely out of the conversation. She grabbed his arm and as she led him away, he turned back and rolled his eyes at me. He told me to call him. I love the picture because it was taken at the moment before the storm of chatter rolled in on us. Like so many, I will forever be grateful for the genuine promoter and friend John Seigenthaler was of both The Widow of the South and A Separate Country. May He Rest forever on the Bosom of Abraham in the eternal light of His Lord.
