The story of my Football! My name is Bilhan Sebe, but my friends call me Billy. I am 12 years of old, attending Primary school in class 7. We are now three siblings. My elder sister died last year inside our house. My parents say she died from a simple illness, and that they did not have about some little money to take her to hospital. I got so traumatized and moved out of our house since then. I am currently the coordinator of Martens Africa’s Junior Group, and Captain of our Junior Football Team. I love education, performing arts, and sports so much. Diego Maradona is my hero. I find great enjoyment when I do creative, physical activities. These also keep me fit, active, and busy. My village of Butula has many children of my age engaged in bad behavior. Yesterday Martens Africa held the final football match of this year, and I am very happy to be the best goal scorer! I was presented with a Mountain Bike and I am super excited! I will be using it for school and Martens activities. I also love to help around with work. My favorite is looking after chicken, farm animals, and tilling land to grow vegetables and other food. Our Junior Football Team is comprised of both boys and girls. We do not have any sports gear. But Martens Africa has now given us colourful t-shirts that help us identify team members. I hope we can get sports kits. We improvise our footballs. I am the one who makes the footballs we use to play. I go around looking for waste plastic paper, and sew the balls with strings. This gives us the footballs, but it also has many other benefits. I have learnt from Martens Africa that it is very important to conserve our environment –soil, water, and air. These plastic papers will not rot in the soil, and the papers will also be hazardous if they settle in water areas. So we conserve the environment by collecting this dirt from the village. It is difficult and dangerous sometimes to collect the plastic papers with bare hands, maybe some day we can get hand gloves to protect our skins. We also really want to be professional, and we appeal for anyone out there to help us with a proper football that we can inflate. We also play bare feet, and this is dangerous because we get hurt a lot. We shall appreciate so much to get a sports gear of uniforms and boots. This 9-minute video is about my story of making our football. Thank you for reading and helping Martens Africa Junior Football Club! This is the next big Soccer club that will take on the World. I want to change my destiny. I do not want any child to die like my dear sister, or go without food, or grow without education! Thank you! -Bilhan
