The strangling continued at the YALC today!! It was an amazing event, albeit one that I know was hugely disappointing for a number of people. I arrived at 12.30pm and was astonished by the crowds outside. The line to get in seemed to go on forever, and I wondered how and when they were going to let everybody in, since it was already almost packed-out inside. I was due to start signing at 1.15pm, but decided to begin early, at 12.45. Im glad I did, because I didnt stop from that point onwards. I signed for 3 hours and 40 minutes, then went to do my event with Charlie Higson, Will Hill and Derek Landy, which was a lot of fun. Then I returned to the signing table and signed for about hour and 10 minutes, making it almost 5 hours in total! Everyone who came was very polite, and queued in an orderly fashion, and we all had a wonderful time. Unfortunately, not everyone who wanted to come was able to. The organisers seemed to underestimate the public interest, and lots of people who came and waited for hours had to be turned away in the end. My apologies to anyone who failed to gain entrance, though its something that was completely out of my control -- ticket sales were being run by the Film And Comic Con people, and we were simply their guests. Everything on the inside was fine -- its just a shame that not everybody could get in. Hopefully its something theyll sort out in future years, and maybe run it on a pre-sale basis only, i.e. sell all tickets in advance, and not have a situation where people turn up on the day. Anyway, that aside, I had a brilliant time, and I think everyone who did get in had a wonderful time too. Its certainly something Id like to come to again -- but next time Ill try to arrive early, so that I can have a look around and get some autographs myself -- I was gutted that I missed meeting George Romero...
