The stretch reflex is a very useful tool in strength training for initiating the concentric phase of a lift, for example, at the bottom of the squat or bench press, you have a controlled decent but with a rapid turn around, using the elastic properties of the muscle to assist with lifting the weight. Note that this is very different from a rapid and uncontrolled eccentric phase, where you decelerate a heavy weight that is moving very quickly and then move it the other way. At some point, this will result in pain. If this doesnt make sense, I will make a video to explain better...
