The student call for talks is out! An excerpt: We have selected March 22, 2014, as the event date, and more information will be available via our Facebook page (https://facebook/Tedxfitchburgstateu, accessible to non-Facebook members) and our website (TEDxFitchburgStateU). You can also follow us on Twitter @TEDxFitchburgStateU. In the meantime, we need your help! We want the event to feature the exciting ideas of our students, in addition to faculty, staff, and community members. If you are, or know of, someone with big ideas, we want to hear about them! Here are some general guidelines from TED about what to look for in speakers: To build a powerful speaker program, seek out extraordinary voices in your local community who have a unique story or an unusual perspective -- and who can convey it in a dynamic way. · Someone with a research project that is groundbreaking, or incorporates and reorients knowledge in new ways · An individual with a compelling story · Someone with a novel approach to a well-known idea, activity, or something else (one TED talk was all about how to better use a paper towel!) We have also included at the end of this email some general guidelines from the TEDx Speaker’s Guide on what to think about when you propose and prepare a talk. · To apply, please use the online form on our website. The student deadline for applications is November 1, 2013. · We will also accept nominations for speakers. Speakers will work with organizers in drafting, finalizing, and practicing their talk. Coaching will be available, so even if you are nervous, there will be help! Other Ways to Get Involved If you are not interested in giving a talk but want to help in some way, there is also a volunteer form on the website. If you are a leader in a student group and would like to organize a viewing party, keep an eye on our website and facebook page (listed above) for more details! The event will be livestreaming on the web.
