The sun! The sun! I’m Engish so the only place to go is .... the seaside! The Costa Brava to be precise. But probably not the bits that come to mind. There is an amazing coastal drive from Malgrat de Mar to Llfranc with some stunning scenery. In the middle there is a resort called Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Now listen. Its many years since I’ve had a beach holiday and even longer since I’ve wanted one, but this place actually had me thinking that it would be a great place for a family holiday: clean, relaxed, pleasant people, well organised and children friendly beach. Some very fine beach scenery, too. Yep, I think that this would be my resort of choice. Must be getting old(er). From there we explored the interior – again, marvellous scenery. We spotted a rather impressive castle on top of a hill/small mountain and spent about an hour searching for a way to get up there but to no avail. So off we went to the archaeological dig at Ullastret – an Iberian village of about 300 BC which was fascinating. Then we meandered – stopping to watch bee catchers and hupu swooping over the fields. It was a 12 hour day, exhausting but great fun. I’ve missed out loads but ... p.s. Bill – no motorcyclists followed us ;)
