The superb, young Russian piano virtuoso, Daniil Trifonov (b. 1991), has had a wonderful season thus far capped, this week, by a stunning and demanding recital at New Yorks Carnegie Hall. In that performance, Mr. Trifonov joined only three other concert pianists in the Halls history -- legends all -- to play the complete set of Franz Liszts Transcendental Etudes in one sitting -- José Iturbi (1930), Jorge Bolet (1967) and Lazar Berman (1976). And play them he did . . . spectacularly. Here is Mr. Trifonov in an earlier performance . . . when he was all of 8 years old. It has to start somewhere!
