The surprising thing about Ferguson is not that it is happening in - TopicsExpress

The surprising thing about Ferguson is not that it is happening in America but that it doesnt happen in America more often. The amount of absurd and systemic racism that still exists within the structures of the state should give rise to more reaction such as this within the context of race politics in america. Yet, people are suddenly shocked by this. This is not unique, anyone who has a black male friend and has spend enough time with them (by that i dont mean sailing on the cape or hanging out at myrtle beach) would know that there is this undercurrent of suspicion without merit that follows them when they are in public. It does not matter if they are in an area where crimes have been committed or they are in a stepford suburb, this pervasive suspicion which stems from a well accepted and firmly entrenched prejudice that somehow black people cannot be as successful, as eloquent, as wealthy, as charming as the rest of the ruling elites, remains. That is why it is amusing to see brown/white people who live in homogenous suburbs, who actively avoid any place the black population may inconvenience them, suggesting there is something wrong with America. There IS something wrong with america...it is YOU!
