The talent of my friends overwhelms me. I feel shaky. Nothing and Everything is an incredible, incredible show. Im gonna write a little essay now. At one point early in the performance, Andrew slipped and said yall in the middle of a line. The audience lit up, and the entire cast broke on stage. At intermission, Ruby had the most brilliant insight about that moment: all of us were so swept up in the world of the story that a simple slip of vocabulary could snap us all out of it and remind us that it was just actors in a theater. And cause us to laugh boisterously. Two lines in the final scene between Courtney, Valerie, and Megan made me tear up—and literally start crying when talking about it afterward: First, as Courtney rips up an ill-advised love letter: Maybe if I tear it into little-enough pieces, it wont have happened. Second, as they muse on how they wish humans could be like mechanical robots: You could wind up your heart when you want to feel. And wind it down when you just want to die. Man. After the show I was talking with Jillian, and I ended some sentence with well, its Chekhov. Jill shook her head. It was better than Chekhov.
