The teenage boy that serve me my coffee this morning told me I was beautiful. Im not sure if Im flattered or if Im disappointed that our culture makes it acceptable for a man to say something to a stranger thats female about their appearance in a way that they would never comment to a stranger thats male. Dude would never acknowledge another dude that hes never met by saying hey youre looking good today, and if by some chance he did, he probably got his ass kicked. I knew it was meant as a comment so I just smiled and said thank you, but we should be teaching kids to not look at women as objects that are there for their visual enjoyment but as equal human beings. I know it seems petty and Im not trying to stir up a political debate it was just something that really irked me this morning for some reason.
