The temperatures outside might be cooling off but the activity at Monroe Middle School is heating up when it comes to activities to help the homeless and to help pay heating bills for the less fortunate this winter season. At lunch time, members of the school’s National Junior Honor Society are selling Atomic Fireballs to raise money for the Walk for Warmth. The group also will have some walkers participating in Sunday’s Walk for Warmth. While some NJHS members are walking this Sunday, others will be running while participating in the Monroe Half-Marathon to benefit Special Olympics. All next week – during Homeless Awareness Week – Monroe Middle School will host a personal hygiene products drive to collect such items as toothpaste, tooth brushes, shampoo, deodorant and related items to be turned over to the Monroe County Opportunity Program.
