The term “generativity” is etymologically and psychologically - TopicsExpress

The term “generativity” is etymologically and psychologically related to “generosity.” When we become authentic and hence generative we also become generous in the true sense of the word. Generosity is one of the moral virtues lacking in our society. One of the ways in which the lack of generosity (and thus generativity or authenticity) manifests in our society is how people become mean, that is, miserly, to others with whose points of view or opinions they disagree. Such people do not have the generosity to allow others (the right) to hold different points of view, leading to, for example, such phenomena as thought policing and political correctness. The human beings are biologically designed and culturally conditioned to be conformists. The authentic generative individuals are therefore rare.
