The thing about walking out if your medical care provider is - TopicsExpress

The thing about walking out if your medical care provider is running late? No. If she works for an HMO, she has little control over how the patients are scheduled. The HMO wants the patient in and out in 20 minutes or less, and the doctor to be seeing back-to-back patients without so much as a potty break between... and its the nature of medicine that someone is going to have something going on more complex than can be covered in 20 minutes. Or theres an emergency and another patient HAS to be squeezed in before you because she needs immediate attention. The ER or Urgent Care isnt always an option. Sometimes YOU are the patient whose case is too complex for 20 minutes. If you know you have a tight schedule, request the first or second appointment of the day when you make the appointment - or ask if the doctor is running late before you pay your copay. That way, if you cant wait, you can reschedule and save yourself the aggravation. The rest of it? Work and social? I have no argument. I know I run late for everything, thanks to some of my medical issues - so I make it a point to be ready and out the door half an hour early. I can read or knit while I wait. Better that than let the people Im meeting think I just dont give a shit.
