The third week in October is always an expensive week in the garden. As thousand of Goldfinches move into the UK from the continent and others, our breeding birds, move south to Iberia my garden palays host to hundreds of Goldfinches. Last year got up to around 400, and they consume Sunflower Hearts at a rate. Ive got 13 feeders for sunflower seeds, the one right nest to the Kitchen window normally attracts our resident House Sparrows but the others, at he present are dominated by Goldfinckes and the air is full of their rasping calls. The feeders below are just outside our lounge sliding doors.
