The threat is real. Ferrari and Fernando Alonso fans must have thought way back in 2009 that it would usher a great era for them and it would bring a lot of glory and titles. It really hasnt happened for them, eventhough Fernando has been giving top drawer performances all throughout. It felt like 2014 would bring in a much needed change from the RBR-Newey monotony with the new engines and the shift of focus away from aerodynamics, especially with the change in the number of exhaust pipes from 2 to 1, which would curb the exhaust blown diffuser effect perfect by Adrian Newey. It was almost a given for all Ferrari fans that they would not falter in the engine department given that their V8 worked really well. Everyone knew aerodynamics might still be an issue but not as pronounced as before because of the changes in regulations. The general feeling was that even if Ferrari didnt have the fastest package, their fast engine and Fernandos performances would put them in a good position for 2014. Arrived 2014 and RBR were not in the privileged position as before. Mercedes showed signs of having the fastest car, but all Tifosi must have thought that having the threat of RBR diluted, the Fernando-Ferrari package can definitely handle anyone else. However, as the year has passed, it has become more apparent that not only do the Mercs have the best and most efficient engine, but their car too is a piece of art. Its not a one trick pony. They are the fastest because of a variety of reasons and they have excelled in every department. Be it engine,drivers, aerodynamics,one lap pace, race pace or what have you. One might say, even more so than RBR did at any time between 2010-2013. Another year goes by without a title. The question that remains on all the Tifosi and Fernando Alonsos fans minds is, will there ever be a title? Will it ever work? Will it just be year after year of excuses until its time to call it off? More importantly, will Ferrari ever be forgiven for not providing Fernando with a package which would not need to be flattered by his own genius? It seemed like a given in 2009. -pratoscope
