The time of the surgery is unknown, most likely this afternoon. The personal yet professional approach of the staff here continue to impress me! Though through unfortunate circumstances, we met a college friend this morning at breakfast whos son is also in NICU - it was good to see a familiar face and catch up. The surgery is called a thoracotomy, where they will create an incision on her right side and remove a diseased lobe from her right lung. As a babys lung continues to grow and develop for the next eight years, it will be unnoticeable after her recovery. Following the operation, she will have a tube left in to pull out fluids and air trapped in her chest. Once this normalizes, they will remove it and shell continue on her road to recovery with antibiotics to prevent infection, continued ventilation, and gradual feeding - she is on an IV again so shes really hungry now.
