The time to act is NOW! Over the past several months, many of you have been following my daycare situation in the media and through my facebook posts. Some of you you have expressed interest in supporting a change in the language of the existing ordinance as it relates to home daycare in The City of Knoxville. As the language currently stands , Knoxville is not in line with the rest of the state of Tennessee, nor Knox County or other municipalities of similar size. In fact, it basically says it is illegal to babysit for a fee in a private home! Myself, along with several other concerned parties, have been working diligently to get this law amended to allow small home based daycares of no more than 4 non blood relatives to be allowable by right in a private residence with out a change in zoning for the property. If you would like to read the ordinance that is being proposed, I’ve attached the link to the MPC Website for you to review. I am simply requesting that you please take the time out to send an email to the MPC staff ( [email protected] ) voicing your support of this ordinance change language. If it doesnt get voted in by the MPC, then it wont even make it to City Council in September. This issue is very important to me personally, as well as how it affects many working parents in the city. Even if you dont have any children of your own, you probably know someone whose life is affected by it!
