The timing of revelation or answers to prayers is also completely - TopicsExpress

The timing of revelation or answers to prayers is also completely determined by the Lord. We can do things that enhance our readiness to receive revelation. We can facilitate things so revelation comes more quickly than it might otherwise. But when it comes is still the Lord’s decision. We may influence the timing but we cannot determine it. In many cases, setting our own timetable, and then asking the Lord to meet our timetable, comes from our own sense of urgency in a matter. For example we may have two job offers, one of which will soon be withdrawn if we don’t answer. We maybe inclined to say, “Lord, I have to know by Friday. Another common mistake we make that is related to the timing of revelation is that we blithely move along with our lives, comfortable and content when things are going well. During such a period we have somewhat of a casual relationship with the Lord and His Spirit. Then a crisis hits. Suddenly we are desperate for help and drop to our knees to begin pleading for God’s intervention in our behalf. Because it is a crisis, there is usually great urgency involved, and we press the Lord for immediate help or guidance. Because He is our Heavenly Father and because He loves us, there are times when He may answer those urgent pleas for help, even though we have not kept ourselves as ready or as worthy as we should have done. However, we are here to learn to walk by faith, and sometimes the only way we learn faith is to have a blessing withheld. Though we may be tempted to view this as a punishment or decide that God doesn’t care, it is simply another manifestation of the principle that God, in all His wisdom and knowledge, decides when a revelation or answer to prayers should be given. —Gerald N.
