The title of my morning devotion is Another Hero of Christmas. It was so good, I just had to share a little of it with you all. This is a tribute to all of the good men out there...our unsung heroes....Husbands, Brothers, Uncles, Nephews, Fathers, Step Fathers and Sons...the scripture is taken from Matthew 1: 18-25 and says, in part, Joseph her husband being a just ( good) man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. ( vs. 19) We hear so much about Mary, the mother of Jesus, being the chosen one to carry and deliver the Savior ( our Savior) of the world....and indeed she was so special to have been chosen to be Jesuss Mother...but todays devotion focused on Joseph....Jesuss step father. For most of my life, I missed the importance of Joseph in the Christmas story. Even before he knew how Mary had become pregnant, he decided that he wasnt going to embarrass or punish her for what seemed to be infidelity. I marvel at his obedience and humility, as he not only did what the angel told him (vs. 24) but also refrained from physical intimacy with Mary until after Jesus was born. (Vs. 25) Imagine the pressure Joseph and Mary must have felt when they learned that Jesus would be theirs to raise and nurture! Imagine the complexity and pressure of having the Son of God living with you every moment of every day; a constant call to holiness by His very presence. WHAT A MAN JOSEPH MUST HAVE BEEN TO BE TRUSTED BY GOD FOR THIS TASK! What a wonderful example for us to follow, whether we re raising our own children OR those born to others who are NOW ENTRUSTED TO US....oh how I can relate to that! I am so thankful for my husband Dale for the fantastic father that he is to my children and absolutely wonderful Paw Paw he is to my Grand children....so to all of the wonderful men that I know who have stood in the gap and picked up where someone left off and made a difference in the lives of our precious children, I thank you from the bottom of my heart....you know who you are!!! Merry Christmas everyone!!
