The title of this essay is The Path. It is dedicated to those who suffer, who mourn, and who experience pain. I wrote it from my heart, when I felt it heavy and I was burdened down by the weight of unspeakable pain. Upon some reflection, words came, and I wrote them down, as they came. (Included the full text here): We reflect on life, we reflect on death. We reflect with keenness of mind and acuteness of perception. We reflect on time, passing between the seconds, passing between the moments. Instances of time, that appear as eternity, instances of time, captured in memories. As everything moves, as everything changes, in the stillness of the present, we become aware of the mystery of it all. The mystery of creation, and the mystery of the Will. The mystery of Reason and of life itself. When we have used our professional knowledge to the fullest, when we have used our efforts, our personal abilities to the most, we come to realize that which is beyond. Beyond is a door. A door which connects us with eternity, with eternal reality. Beyond the door is eternal salvation, eternal love, eternal life. While we are on earth, our capacities reach only to the door, to see that there is more beyond. If we have listened carefully, if we have taken the time, we see the door is not so far. It is not beyond reach. If we should reach out to it, we must reach out in humility, in complete self giving. We must turn toward it, and lay down our hands, to embrace the mystery. And, then, the mystery embraces us too. It draws nearer and nearer still, until it speaks to our hearts, our minds, our souls. The mystery says: I am life. The mystery says: I am love. The mystery says: I am the path. I am the way, the road. It says: I am the truth. Follow me. There is no way to describe the truth, the way, the path, or the road but with the words of eternal light and love. And while we are on earth, we sometimes need to rely on our partial words to describe it. So we may say: I and Thou Martin Buber said these words, when he said: God is the most intimate partner of our soliloquies. And so it is. Out of suffering and pain, new life may grow, and new life fulfills the higher reason of the suffering. Therefore, the Light says that we should not be afraid when we reach the threshold. The Way points to mystery beyond. The mystery, which is the greatest present to humanity. So when we reach the end of our abilities, when we have given all we had to give, then we can know that nothing had been in vain. All has been preserved, stored, and recorded for eternity. All has been saved for eternal life. Even the tears of the moment; and even the joys of the present. Even the sorrows of the day, and the longings of the night. Even the pain of the months, and the laughter for all ages, to come. The joy will come. The consolation will come. The prize will come. This is the prize that is worth waiting for. This is the prize that is worth fighting for. This is the prize that is worth suffering for. But now, in the dark, when everything seems dull, which way to turn, which way to look, which way to follow....The Path. Follow and listen to the Way. It shows you the way of suffering, the way of endurance, the way of courage. Reach out your hand, and hold on to it. You will be lifted up and carried, where you have not been before, where you have not seen before, where you have not known before. The path of Truth, the path of beauty, the path of Goodness. It begins with you...if you open your heart and mind to embrace it. Then, you may live it, and it will give grace to your steps and beauty to your ways. It will draw its protection and halo around you that you may walk in peace, and you may walk in light, until the day you will be called to cross the door by the Word, and see eternal light, know eternal truth, and be eternal life. The path starts right here. Right now. It is already paved by some of your actions, words, and deeds….So in your freedom, however big or small that may be right now, choose what brings you closer to the light. Choose what brings you closer to the Truth. Choose what brings you closer to being the unique, irreplaceable, and valuable you. May the Light guide your steps. May wisdom embrace your words. May courage crown your actions. For every bit counts, and nothing ever is lost--in eternity.
