The totally gorgeous Hungarian violinist and thereminist, Katica Illenyi, plays Puccini’s O MIO BABBINO CARO. Excellent pitch, and a surprisingly nice sound from her Etherwave. Her stunning wardrobe reminded me of what the announcer said of Clara Rockmore for the 1944 live radio broadcast of the Anis Fuleihan Concerto: “And here comes Clara Rockmore in a long, tight-fitting white gown….”. When ya got it, FLAUNT IT! The tempo is a wee bit slow, and the interpretation a tad on the schmaltzy side (hey….I should talk….mine is even schmaltzier!) but the performance is nevertheless very beautiful with no “ooops”. Katica seems to have mastered some of the highly operatic vocal techniques such as maintaining a gentle vibrato on a downward “gliss”. https://youtube/watch?v=sh4EQFVAE04
