The tribunal sees the declaration as some profound assertion of Maori sovereignty. However, the declaration had no international status, and was regarded by British officials at the time as a silly as well as an unauthorised act. LOL Paul Moon, the 1835 Declaration of Independence had no international status on account of the only international relations being with the invading colonial power who it could be argued had somewhat of a vested interest in this new bit of land theyd discovered (covered in squatters). They regarded it as silly and unauthorised, did they? Excuse me Mr. Colonial Invader, wed like to be recognised as nation please oh yup, np, sorry about that, kbai LOL AUT University
