The triple crown for the Canning River parkrun community occurred today on our 71st parkrun. CR parkrunners have collectively ran over 1000 marathons with a total of 42,690 km clocked up to date – that is a huge distance! parkrun turned 10 and today we celebrated International parkrun Day, a day to commemorate the launch of Bushy parkrun on the 2nd of October, 2004. Incredibly, Bushy is running it’s 538th event today. CR is a relatively young parkrun, but we have a lot of new entrants in the 50-club. Congratulations to Neil Richardson on his stealth 50 today. parkrunners who have completed 50 parkruns up until the end of July received their brand spanking new red 50-club shirt too. Congrats team! Of note, was Carolyn Stephens who has only missed five Canning River parkruns, chalking up her 66th event today! Today’s parkrun was all about celebrating personal achievements that we are personally proud of. In doing so, CR parkrun asked our parkrun community to wear a shirt of an achievement that each runner is proud of! What an amazing selection of shirts were visible today, but more so was having over 200 parkrunners and 31 first timers attend. Today was Canning River parkrun’s second largest attendance – woot woot! The highlight for the day was the number of visitors or parkrun tourists today. We had representation from Guildford in the UK, Wellington in NZ, Wollongong, Albert Park in Melbourne, Brisbane, and of course two from nearby Pioneer (welcome back Jez and Kelly – nice PB too Kel). CR parkrun is truly an International event. Our volunteers, who I can’t thank enough, did a splendid job and to those regulars who joined in to help at the end – thank you. Our wonderful baking parkrunners made cakes for all of us to share. Thanks team. Special thanks to Allison for her great cake to mark this special occasion. International parkrun Day commemorates the launch of Bushy parkrun in 2004 and to celebrate this huge milestone parkrun is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘most participants in a 5km run across multiple locations’. The current record was set by Cancer Research UK at the Race For Life One Big Day event and involved 101,246 participants at 23 locations across the UK on 4 June 2006. It’s early days yet, but we had an exceptional turn out across Australia today. Check out all of the new event records set around Australia on the link below. parkrun.au/results/attendancerecords/ The results are up on the Canning River parkun page.
