The truth behind Humane Watch and their attack on HSUS - HumaneWatch is a project of the Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF). Both are the creation of corporate lobbyist Richard Berman, who attacks charities on behalf of the industries that anonymously fund his campaigns. CCF fights against the public interest groups that expose unhealthy, unsafe, or inhumane practices. They have opposed Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), among others. CCF refuses to disclose who is funding these attacks on legitimate charities. Its a heinous abuse of nonprofit tax laws: Berman shields his donors by concealing their identity, yet in 2008 (the most recent year tax filings were available), CCF paid 92% of its revenue to Berman and Company, Bermans wholly-owned, for-profit PR firm. Berman reaps the benefits of tax exempt status, but bypasses the restrictions on nonprofits by funneling those tax exempt dollars into his for-profit company. CCF is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) charity, yet engages in no charitable activity, has no employees, is run out of Berman and Companys offices, and has earned millions of dollars in profit for Richard Berman. The reason for the attack on the HSUS is simple..he represents meat-packers and livestock producers and huge corporate agricultural conglomerates who do not want to spend the necessary money to meet humane standards which the HSUS has been trying to get them to do. He is worse than sleazy...he labels terrorist anyone who is interested in a more humane treatment of animals. He is also very personally disordered..for example, his organization spent years smearing Mothers Against Drunk Driving, while at the same times he was arrested for doing just that. There is proof of this on the website previously mentioned. He spreads his misinformation by posing as many different people on social networking sites, giving the impression that there are many more people who are with him than actually are. A very sorry, sad, and bad intentioned person... And its animals who suffer from his actions the most.
