The truth from professor of history Sam Mitrani who wrote a book entitled, The Rise of the Chicago Police Department: Class and Conflict, 1850-1894. The police were originally created to protect the rich and their assets not to protect and serve the people. Today they protect a corrupt economic system and are becoming more violent as the numbers of working class become more agitated. They have always policed and often oppressed lower income minority communities starting in the 1800s with immigrants. This is their historical function which we cannot deny when we consider the state of policing today in the United States.
