The university used to be an institution autonomous from political interests and practical affairs. The virtues of truth and exactitude were based on a methodological demarcation between the practical concerns of civic life and the purpose of a university—to learn to think disinterestedly. Now, thanks to the rise of multiculturalism, the university is no longer autonomous from ideology. (essay by Ryan Shinkel)
