The use of acorns by other animals isn’t a problem; it is their neglect by humans that creates problems for the oak trees. This neglect, or, said another way, this lack of use and interaction by people, is one reason we routinely see large oak trees felled to make way for homes and other new development. Acorns have a large number of culinary uses and do not contribute to chronic disease as does the primary staple in the Standard American Diet—bread wheat. If these facts were known (i.e., if people utilized acorns for food), it is likely that such oak trees, often with 150 or more annual growth rings, would be preserved more often and developments would be molded around such valuable natural resources. ~Delta Institute of Natural History
