The use of spoken word samples was key to a number of NUT releases and indeed techstep as a whole. They added to the vibe of the track perfectly and could implant an image in the mind of the listener, but could also make the listener aware of a particular message or ethos the artist was trying to convey. Cells repeat the process of degeneration and regeneration. All things change in a dynamic environment. Two very cool samples taken from Ghost In The Shell, a highly influential film to fans of techstep. These samples could also be interpreted as highlighting the progression of Drum & Bass from hip hop and reggae to acid house, hardcore, jungle and then onto techstep. Never staying still, always changing. Cells itself is one of the coldest tracks from the NUT back catalogue. The beat is relentless and incredibly effective, with subtle changes to the amount of reverb (a feature of many NUT tracks) keeping things unpredictable. Deep acidic bass stabs accompany the aforementioned samples until the track reaches its disgusting finale, one of the darkest Reece lines ever commited to wax. Cells is an exercise in tension with no release, something that NUT revelled in. youtube/watch?v=w7mdBxRmJb8
