The users at West Mill Street Library have submitted a petition to Perth Council on the 13th March. The Petition had 1808 supporters and 129 Facebook (likes). Thank you to everyone for their support. Today 14th March 2014, a formal complaint was lodged with the Council Leader Cllr Ian Miller and the Complaints and Communications officer at Perth and Kinross Council. The Library users strongly disagree with the Council’s decision to close the Library on 4 April 2014. We have advised the Council that it is our view that the complaint should be fully investigated and considered in full compliance with the Equalities and Human Rights Commission Guidance Notes on Public Sector Equality Duty (Scotland) before a final decision is reached We are also of the view that the library should remain open until such time as the Council undertake a full and proper review of the position and have undertaken ’due regard’ to the protected status under the Equality Act 2010 of the elderly and disabled patrons of the Library.
