The varieties of coping methods used by peoples of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds illustrate the range of their understanding of the human condition and, as reflected in their various mythologies, the respective extent of their spiritual awakening. It is as perfectly appropriate that a monument to the mentality of one group be displayed in an otherwise secular museum setting as any other! ... as long as our government is not in any way involved in the promulgation of any particular faith. The ostensible stated purpose of displaying this piece of wreckage that so resembles an icon of one branch of the religions of the Levant is indeed secular, as the court correctly interprets, and in no way should be regarded as a subversive attempt by adherents of the faith to advance their faith to any greater extent by said adherents themselves than by the general public; and I would hesitate to suggest that any particular faith is being herein promoted. Rather, the monument as it stands points more so to the faith suggested by the shape of the wreckage as the curiosity that it is, much as we might regard any symbological interpretation of any piece of the rubble or debris from the catastrophe. It goes without saying, of course, that untold millions of citizens did not rely on this or any other similar crutch to quote-unquote cope with the tragedy, and while their story is every bit as genuine, it may be beyond the capacity of the average objective observer to understand the purpose of whatever display, or lack thereof, those individuals needed (or did not need) to comprehend the disaster. Therefore, I would not expect anyone to erect a sri yantra or even so much as a bindi, however pertinent or significant, and it be comprehended by the ordinary objective observer, let alone one steeped in the Judeo-Christian Weltanschauung.
