The vast majority of todays country music is admittedly shallow, particularly from the male artists. There are only so many songs about tailgates, bonfires and the like that one can take. Recently, a group of female artists have tried to respond by poking fun at said shallow music, but, in doing so, have responded with their own equally shallow music (to say nothing of the fact that, in responding to this shallow music, they played right into the false stereotypes their male counterparts have projected on them). This is why I love Kacey Musgraves, who has responded by not responding, focusing instead on producing music that harkens back to Loretta Lynn, Waylon Jennings and the other greats of an era gone by.
