The venus flytrap was looking so good that it left my pitcher - TopicsExpress

The venus flytrap was looking so good that it left my pitcher plant looking kind of sad so I broke the rules a little bit and repotted it today. I had to transfer the skull which was put in the old pot by a little kid in the neighborhood when he found out the plant ate bugs! Just like the flytrap is native to the Carolinas, a lot of people are not aware that the pitcher plant is from Alabama. Probably this picture is not all that aesthetically pleasing but I left the water bottle in there for a reason. A lot of people tell me they buy carnivorous plants only to have them die. First question I ask - what kind of water are you using? Tap water - no, no. Distilled water is the only thing that makes them happy, happy. Anything else with the exception of rain water probably has too much mineral content. The other thing you should not do is fertilize. That is what they catch the bugs for. :)
