The very moving story of the late Master Cpl. Jeffrey Walsh from Regina on the National Day of Honour, marking the end of our country’s military mission in Afghanistan and paying tribute to the fallen, the wounded and their families. We who serve in the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly have the honour to work with Ben Walsh, Jeffreys dad. We think of him and his family on days like today and so many other days too. And then we think of Jeffrey. I have read Jefferys poem at many public events and I just cannot get through it. It makes me feel somehow like I had the honour of knowing Jeffrey personally - that I knew the strong character and generous spirit of this good man. Mostly it overwhelms me with gratitude that some would give all for the rest of us. When we think of Jeffrey..we think with grateful hearts of all who gave the last full measure of devotion and all who were so willing to do so to the cause of freedom, our great country and strangers in a far away land that they never met. Our fervent prayers are with the families and friends of all these heroes. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. - John 15:13
