The very power of choice that enables us to receive Christ by faith is itself God’s sovereign gift—and receiving a gift gives no reason to boast. Calvinists say that free will would “limit God’s freedom.” They limit God! If God cannot exercise His sovereignty unhindered by man’s free will, He is limited indeed. For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. —Romans 5:17
