The victim of a drowning incident Wednesday in the Skunk River has been identified as Philip A. Frystak, age 29, of Ames. Philip Frystak is from Marlton, New Jersey. On Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 2:45 p.m., the Ames Police Department received a 911 call from Carr Park, 1704 Meadowlane Ave., about a possible drowning in the Skunk River. Ames Police, Ames Fire, and EMS responded to the scene and searched for the male. The Story County Dive Team was called at 3 p.m. and searching continued. The male and a group of friends had been tubing on the Skunk River. Due to the recent heavy rain, the river had high water which created swift currents and murky water. The male had hit a downed tree which was half submerged in the water. At 6:45 p.m., the body was recovered from the river and transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office. Public Safety officials urge residents to stay out of local waterways due to heavy rains, currents, and limited visibility of potential debris and downed tree limbs.
