The video is country singer Sawyer Brown in a tribute to 18. 1 player outside of Memorial Stadium has a statue with coach Tom Osborne. Its not any of the many 5 star recruits or All-Americans. Its the hardest working player in the history of college football----Brook Berringer. Not a coveted recruit, just a small town QB from Kansas that didnt even play on a winning high school team. He wasnt gifted but he was a worker. He was the QB behind the greatest QB in college football history- Tommie Frazier. He was also the QB that nearly took Fraziers job. Berringer came in for Frazier in 1994 due to injury and led Nebraska to an undefeated season only to have Frazier return for the National title game. He never complained about splitting time in that game. He never complained about losing the job over the next offseason to Frazier. He just never complained. He once played the last 3 quarters of a game with a collapsed lung. They blew the lung back up and it collapsed again the next week after a hard hit.....he finished that game also and played the very next week. After losing the job back to Frazier, instead of complaining and splitting the team, he started donating all of his spare time to charity and especially kids. He started going to schools and talking to kids about the importance of never giving up and working hard. He did this years before athletes were expected to. Its been 18 years since his plane crashed off campus in Lincoln. He died 2 days before he was to be selected in the NFL Draft. As good of a role model as Manning, Jeter etc are......Brook Berringer was above and beyond.
