The video is grainy, black and white, and the familiar voice sounds younger than most of us remember it. But Ronald Reagan’s “A Time for Choosing” speech is eerily relevant today, 50 years after it was given. It’s eloquent, powerful, delivered with just notes and not a teleprompter, and wasn’t designed to launch a political career. It was one man’s heartfelt distillation of the decision facing all Americans in all generations, since there will always be greedy, power-hungry people and nations seeking to destroy America:
